Montessori Toddler Programs in South St. Louis
Our Toddler Community program provides a warm, nurturing environment for children ages 15 months – 3 years old. Children can safely explore, build essential skills, and gain confidence
beyond the familiarity of home and their primary caregivers.
Fostering independence is at the heart of our unique program. Children at this stage are eager to do things for themselves, so it is essential that we support and encourage this independence. Through self-care routines and independent toileting, children develop into capable, self-
assured individuals.
Child-Led Learning, Montessori-Guided
Our environment was created following Dr. Maria Montessori’s guidelines. Each space and activity is tailored to our children specifically, and the space evolves with their interests and abilities, offering the right level of challenge to build new skills. Early practice helps these skills become second nature. We support this development through exploration in the areas listed below.
Practical life activities are at the core of our program. Through these activities children learn to care for themselves and their environment, building confidence, autonomy and a love for learning and exploration. After learning how to use the materials, children independently apply these skills throughout the day by watering plants, cleaning spills, wiping tables and washing dishes, setting the table, preparing snacks and more.
Our psychosensory motor activities provide hands-on learning and sensory exploration. These materials are carefully designed to support the development of hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and problem-solving ability. Manipulatives promote curiosity and self-directed learning, helping to strengthen their independence and understanding concepts such as shape, size and texture.
Children are given opportunities for purposeful movement, such as climbing, jumping, and dancing both indoors and outdoors. These actions aid in the development of coordination, balance, and strength. Open spaces, low furniture, and engaging materials allow children to develop at their own pace while strengthening large muscles and gaining independence, confidence, body control, and spatial awareness.
The art materials focus on the process of creating art and not the end product. Our space is designed to foster children’s natural inclination toward creativity and self-expression. The space and materials allow for open-ended exploration, experimentation and expression through various artistic media.
